Sciatica:

Sciatica is one of the most common types of pain that starts in the lower back and radiates down all the way to the leg. It originates from the L4 nerve root to S2 nerve root level. Usually if there is a disc degenerative problem that has caused a disc to collapse or bulge out, the sciatica nerve can be impingement causing severe discomfort. Sometimes the pain is so severe and unbearable, that the patient can not walk, bend, sit or even lie down. It is best to assess the disc with CT or MRI imaging once known that Sciatica is present to find out the cause and best treatment option.

Piriformis Syndrome is a muscular condition that can mimic Sciatica and in most times is diagnosed by patient as sciatica. Piriformis is  muscle deep under the Gluets where it lies and sciatica nerve pinches through it. When this muscle is tight, it can cause irritation to the sciatic nerve, causing lower back pain and radiating pain into the hamstrings, and even to the leg. This condition can be assessed and treated immediately. It is important to come in for a full assessment of the spine and muscle testing to be diagnosed with the right condition and treatments. At Spine Chiropractic we assess Piriformis Sydnrome on daily basis as it is common and with daily stretches and proper care, it can be resolved in no time.
